About Apoma
Apoma began as a university side project during my Industrial Design studies, where I experimented with casting techniques in a homemade foundry in my mum's garage. Starting with aluminium and bronze, I eventually began melting old silver jewellery sourced from Vinnie's.
This exploration led me to try cuttlebone molds, which created unique organic textures and forms that shaped my approach to jewellery design. The name ‘Apoma,’ derived from the Latin word for cuttlefish, reflects this origin and my commitment to creating unique, handcrafted pieces.
Today, I primarily use Delft clay for consistent, high-quality designs while maintaining full creative control. Every piece of Apoma jewellery is individually cast, set, and finished by hand in my Sydney garage studio, combining meticulous craftsmanship with sustainable practices.

Sustainability
Sustainability in jewellery is often more complex than it seems. While gold and silver are infinitely recyclable, much of the jewellery industry relies on the lost wax casting method, which involves burning off wax to create molds—releasing emissions into the atmosphere and contributing to waste.
At Apoma, a more sustainable approach is used through the traditoinal method of sand casting. A single wax master ring is created, which is then pressed into a sand mold to form the negative space for molten metal. Unlike lost wax casting, the wax master is never destroyed, allowing it to be reused indefinitely. This method not only avoids the waste associated with vaporised wax but also allows each piece to be crafted with precision and minimal environmental impact.
Although sand casting is more time-intensive and not suited for mass production, it ensures that each piece is made to order. Furthermore, all scrap materials are 100% recycled, melted down, and used in future creations, minimizing waste.
By choosing Apoma, you're supporting a jewellery-making process that prioritizes sustainability through traditional craftsmanship, reducing waste, and creating meaningful, handcrafted pieces with care and intention.
